Yemen is a country in between times. It is known for its mystical fairytale cities, its bible-like fertile landscapes and the flourishing caravan trade with goods already in high demand during ancient times. But it is also a country with severe problems like the extreme population growth, high child mortality rates, and a low life expectancy.

It is exactly those problems that the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MPIC) of the Yemenite government is trying to tackle. In collaboration with different international donors MPIC is carrying out various projects aiming to improve the standard of living of its population.

To support its work, MPIC employs various information systems to manage and analyse gathered data. An established IT Unit has the responsibility to develop and maintain these information systems.

External support was requested to support this IT-Unit with cutting edge technological knowledge on how to design and develop management information systems (MIS).

The mbi GmbH was commissioned by the project "Advisory Services to the MPIC" of the German Technical Cooperation GTZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit GmbH) to carry out this consultancy task.

The IT staff of MPIC was trained through a series of workshops carried out by mbi.

Jointly with staff of GTZ and MPIC, an IT-Organisational Manual is currently being prepared under a follow-up contract. It will serve as a guideline for future software developments.

As a result, MPIC will have a sound basis to successfully carry out their tasks in the information technology field for the country.
